J. K. Rowling Facts and Quotes

J. K. Rowling, author of the mega-popular Harry Potter books, was born in Chipping Sodbury, England in 1965. The name she was given at birth was “Joanne Rowling,” not “Joanne Kathleen Rowling,” because she actually has no middle name. The K was created after her publisher told her a more gender-neutral name would allow her to have more male readers.

Rowling is the most financially successful writer in literary history, thanks to her character Harry Potter. Her books have sold over 400 million copies around the world and made her the first author in history to become a billionaire from her writing. Her books have been translated into 65 different languages and Harry Potter has invaded every level of society in countries all around the world.

Rowling began writing at the age of six, aided by a brilliant imagination. Her first literary work was titled simply “Rabbit” and was about a small bunny coming down with the measles, but already apparent in the tale was Rowling’s incredible creativity and imagination. Stephen King even commented on this aspect of the Potter books: “They are a feat of which only a superior imagination is capable,” he said in an interview. But King expressed concern for the number of adverbs Rowling uses in her prose, which King suppresses in his own writing. He went on to say how much he appreciated Rowling’s sense of humor, and that the Harry Potter series will surely stand the test of time to eventually find its place alongside other literary classics, such as Huckleberry Fin and Treasure Island.

As a young person, J. K. Rowling was shy with lots of freckles and an absence of athletic ability. She loved literature more than anything else and majored in classical studies at the University of Exeter. She also focused on the French language in the hope of becoming a bilingual secretary, which her parents encouraged. Upon graduating, she took a job as a secretary and researcher at Amnesty International, which is a successful human rights company. But she admits she was not an especially good secretary since her keen imagination kept rising to the surface, causing her to spend too much time inventing new stories.

J. K. Rowling has now finished the last and (supposedly) final volume in the Harry Potter series, and currently has no plans to write an eighth volume. But she says it is tempting to return to that world, and may end up writing another Potter book after all. Her fans sincerely hope so.

Surely we can learn a great deal from a writer as successful as J. K. Rowling. Below are 20 of her quotes taken from interviews and the Harry Potter books.

James Cameron’s “Avatar” – A Review

Since this article was written, “Avatar” has already received wonderful comments about James Cameron’s new masterpiece (yes, I believe, that the people can now call it a masterpiece) written. But the emphasis is on “written”. For the trailer, which he had previously shown, was short and could only proteases the imposing of the film, which is not really fair.

The new, longer trailer is now to be considered according to the people who have posted it on the Web. So, now I offer you even more around it … here it is:

A serious film, right? The subtitles are indeed difficult to understand, but we can focus better on the impressive images. I do not know for how much will be even cooler, if the film was watched through 3D glasses. But what I do know is that millions of people were in the cinema on December 17! Then the film launched worldwide.

It’s a fact that Cameron is not a novice in this field to prove his productions for IMAX theaters such as “Ghost Of The Abyss” and “Aliens of the Sea”. In retrospect, these projects are also similar to the “Avatar”, in a matter of their lavish productions with countless motion-capture processes, special effects and studio scenes shot against blue walls. It’s so real that you could literally fill your own movie. What would be for the masses is still a rather dry theory, since the development of the film with a bonus material on the DVD sometime next may be banned. But the point is that the genre-breaking 3D lying, could significantly boost Cameron’s previous movies. “Avatar” is not a film that is available in 3D, but one that was definitely made for 3D.

The story of “Avatar – Setting out for Pandora”, is therefore on the other hand, almost old fashioned. Christian Stocker draws on the very appropriate comparison to Winnetou: The plot, however, has been well chosen. It is full of noble savages, evil capitalists and beguiling nature. Indeed, in Avatar, you will not see much more than the usual blockbuster reflexes: good versus evil, the repeal of the separation lines and a schmaltzy, a love story….

Avatar represents the year 2154. Therefore, the raw materials on Earth are depleted and it needs replenishment from distant planets. Because there is a valuable mineral on Pandora, the original inhabitants of Na’vi have to leave their habitat to mankind, but do not want to leave without a fight; the ex-Marine Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) in the body of a Na’vi, is stuck to the blue people with nature to infiltrate the superhuman powers. And the conflict begins! We have everything in this movie – all from harsh battles and struggles to a typical love story. Recently, we don’t watch many quality movies, but fortunately this is one of them! The plot is filled with all kinds of various affairs and activities, but the main purpose of the movie is to tell us that there is nothing stronger than love itself!

As the success and failure of any movie is depending on how it is being perceived by a viewer, this movie as also awaiting for such a long lasting reputation to be awarded by the people. This would exactly be for you if you are that guy who run after mysteries or who is fond of things which are beyond common man’s imagination. And strictly not for you, if you can’t leave the limits, when it is a supernatural story.

To conclude, having a look at it will really be worth spending your time and money!
